Building a community of practice to guide rural development

SOURCE: Rural 21
| 2023

The SUSTAIN initiative, implemented by Helvetas, focuses on integrating Environmental, Social, and Climate (ESC) standards into rural development projects. ESC standards are crucial to protect the environment, people’s well-being, and to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. These standards cover aspects like biodiversity conservation, indigenous peoples’ rights, labor conditions, and climate change adaptation. The goal is to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice, making ESC standards a practical part of rural development projects. The initiative uses both in-person and online training methods to reach a wide audience across multiple countries.
