The Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future has partnered with Food + Planet to develop a set of learning modules to inspire and equip the next generation of registered dietitian nutritionists to become advocates for sustainable food systems. These modules offer a comprehensive overview of food systems as they relate to sustainability and public health, with a strong emphasis on nutrition.
Designed for students in dietetic internships and coordinated programs, these evidence-based modules provide well-rounded training that addresses the complex, interconnected aspects of sustainable diets—including human health, sociocultural factors, and environmental impact.
Each module includes a set of slides with notes, case studies, discussion questions and additional resources.

Explore the latest findings of the 2025 Sustainability and Food Insights Survey by Food + Planet and Today’s Dietitian! First launched in 2022, the annual Sustainability and Food Insights Dietitian Survey offers a unique window into how registered dietitians—one of the public’s most trusted voices on nutrition—think about and integrate sustainability into their work. The 2025 survey includes 1002 U.S. registered dietitian nutritionists respondents, exploring dietitians’ knowledge, perspectives, and day-to-day practices related to sustainable diets, and tracking how those views evolve over time.
We are thrilled to be partnering with over 70 Big Y Supermarkets and Fed by Blue’s Emmy-nominated PBS docuseries 𝗛𝗢𝗣𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥. This past year has been one of expansion and innovation for Food + Planet. We remained committed to our mission of empowering healthcare professionals and advocating for sustainable food systems.
We are proud to share some of our key achievements:
- Continued support from Builders Initiative and new collaborations with institutions like Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future, Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, and American Heart Association FoodEDU which help us live our mission even more broadly.
- Expanded our media reach with appearances in U.S. News, The New York Times and National Geographic, allowing us to engage with a wider audience and amplify our message.
- Published our efforts in the academic journal Nature Food, which focused on building regenerative aquatic food systems.

This essential book on blue foods provides the basics on the nutrition and sustainability benefits of aquatic foods, as well as how you can find them in your supermarket and prepare sea vegetables and bivalves at home with quick, easy tips. While the cookbook is designed to be used by food, health, and nutrition professionals to educate consumers, it can be enjoyed equally by home cooks. In addition, quick cooking videos are available for the recipes to highlight their ease and convenience in the kitchen.
