Quinn Institute
Bob Quinn was raised on a 2,400 acre family owned & operated wheat and cattle ranch southeast of Big Sandy, Montana. He studied botany and plant pathology at Montana State University in Bozeman and plant biochemistry at the University of California at Davis. He returned home to run the Quinn Farm & Ranch in 1978. In 1983 Bob started Montana Flour & Grains, Inc. to market his own grain directly to whole grain bakeries in California. In 1986 he started marketing an organically grown ancient wheat under the brand name, Kamut. He started the Oil Barn which produces high-oleic safflower and Big Sandy Organics which produces Kracklin’ Kamut ancient wheat snacks. All three businesses have now been sold. From 1986 to 1989 he converted his entire farm to a regenerative organic system. He wrote “Grain by Grain, a Quest to Revive Ancient Wheat, Rural Jobs and Healthy Food” with co-author, Liz Carlisle which was published in 2019. In 2023 he donated 700 acres from his farm to create a regenerative organic research, education and health institute, (the Quinn Institute) whose mission is “Healing the Earth by Growing Food as Medicine”.
