Kate Gardner Burt, PhD, RDN is a professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences at Lehman College, City University of New York. She teaches courses in cultural humility and foodways, community food systems, and leadership. Dr. Burt’s research explores how systemic racial bias and whiteness impact the dietetics profession and dietary recommendations. Dr. Burt has received national awards and recognition and is currently working on her first book, Healthiest: Whiteness, Bias, and the Myth of Healthy Eating, expected in early 2027. In addition to serving on the advisory board for Food + Planet, Kate is the Vice President of World Critical Dietetics and the current Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Critical Dietetics. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her kids and silversmithing jewelry.
